The submissions for the Council & Committee are now open. It’s time for the BLA to expand and with the state of the world we gotta come together into order to continue to make real change!

All positions are open to Black Lesbian Women of African Diaspora

This is a call out to those who are interested and committed to the growth of:

 

  1. The education, preservation, building while —- uplifting the voices of Black Lesbian (African Diaspora) communities. 

  2. Black Lesbian Women of African Diaspora.

  • POSITIONS FOR BLA COUNCIL 

 

Historian

Description:

 

  • Keeping a active record of BLA Herstory

  • Gather historical data from various sources, including archives, books, and artifacts

  • Analyze and interpret historical information to determine its authenticity and significance

  • Trace historical developments in Black Lesbian Herstory

  • Engage with the public through educational programs and presentations

  • Archive or preserve materials and artifacts

  • Provide advice or guidance on historical topics and preservation issues

  • Write reports, articles, and books on findings and theories

 

Scribe

Description:

  • Record the minutes of each BLA meeting. The Scribe records everything that happens during the meeting (including) timeline of BLA events including what was discussed, what actions were voted on and what actions are being taken as a result. 

  • Keeps complete, detailed records of all of the business relations of the BLA.

  • Distribute documentation to the council and committee well as complete any legal filings on behalf of the BLA on time throughout the year. The scribe also makes sure that all records are properly and safely stored.

Treasurer

Description:

  • Responsible for coordinating and ensuring the financial oversight and financial health of the organization for the council.

  • Understands accounting for BLA, chairs the finance committee, and manages, with the fundraising committee 

  • Works with the BLA’s to ensure that appropriate financial reports are given to the council on a timely basis, presents the BLA’s annual budget for council approval, reviews annual audits and answers council members' questions. 

 

Committee Head

Description: 

  • In consultation with the council and committee chairs. Schedule dates, times and location for meetings.

  • Ensure meetings are called and held in accordance with the BLAs blueprint. 

  • In consultation with the council, committee head and members establish and confirm an agenda for each meeting

  • Ensure the meeting agenda and relevant documents are circulated to the members of the committee 3-5 days in advance of the meeting

  • Officiate and conduct meetings

  • Provide leadership & ensure committee members are aware of their obligations and that the committee complies with its responsibilities

  • Ensure there is sufficient time during the meeting to fully discuss agenda items

  • Ensure that discussion on agenda items is on topic, productive and professional

  • Ensure minutes are complete and accurate, retained, included and reviewed at the next meeting

Chairs of each committee collaborate with the council (specifically committee head) to ensure members are following through with the overall goals of the BLA. 

 

Media (Chair)

  • Publications Team (Physical Book)

  • Grant Writers

 

Street Team (Chair)

 

Members: 

  • Promotions/Graphics/Marketing (getting the word out)

  • Events 

  • Public Relations (PR)

  • Fundraising 

  • Resource List (Building and keeping current)

  • Mailing Post Host (post in each state to carry mail to the next state)

 

Volunteers (Chair)

 

Members:
